Why I got involved in politics
As an active member of the Labour Party since my early 20's I am passionate about serving my community.

My background
Wicklow Town-native Paul O’Brien is your East Wicklow County Councillor, elected in 2019. As an active member of the local community, Paul is working on the many causes that are important to him.
He grew up locally, and is passionate about his community. Social and affordable housing has to be the main priority for any local representative and Paul will continue to fight for those in most need.
Paul is known locally because of his role in local sport. In today’s ever modernising world he believes that sport is essential and that everyone should be entitled to the best of facilities.
Paul is the former National President of the Irish Soccer Referees Society and still continues to referee in the LSL and is chairman of the Wicklow Branch of the ISRS.
He is also a supporter of Wicklow Swimming Club & a number of different organisations in the County.
As a Councillor, Paul is a member of the Housing SPC, Wicklow Sports Partnership, Wicklow Partnership, KWETB, Wicklow Tourism Board and is a member of the Joint Policing Committee.
Paul also appointed as a Peace Commissioner in February 2020.
He is keen to make a contribution to his community in East Wicklow. He and his entire family have been born and raised in East Wicklow. Local politics is about local people, who devote their energies to developing their community.
