Why I got involved in politics
My first involvement in politics was canvassing for the late Michael Bell former Labour TD. His passion to make life better for people who were struggling impressed me.
Back in the 80's work was hard to come by and many people were dependent on social welfare to get by.
The Labour Party was the one political party that fought hard for the rights of workers and I knew that Labour was the party for me.
My priorities
Drogheda is that largest town in Ireland and has seen significant growth over the last fifteen years. Unfortunately financial investment in Drogheda over that time period did not match the population growth. A significant portion of our town is in need of regeneration.
I have worked with Louth County Council to develop a plan, the West Gate Vision to address this dereliction. The provision of services lagged behind the population growth which has resulted in a chronic shortage of mental health and addiction services.
I work with a number of NGO charities that help to provide services and support for people with mental health and addiction issues. Drogheda is experiencing significant traffic congestion due to large population growth and lack of critical infrastructure.
I am working with my colleague Ged Nash TD to secure funding for the Northern Cross Port Access Route. This piece of infrastructure is urgently required to address the traffic congestion currently being experienced by Drogheda residents.
My background
I have been a political activist for the last thirty one years and a councillor on Louth County Council since 2011. I was elected to LCC in 2014 and 2019.
Also, I was fortunate to be elected Mayor of Drogheda from 2017-2018 and Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council from 2021-2022.
I have a BA in Psychology and MSc in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.
