TIMELINE FOR SUBMISSIONS TO NATIONAL PLANNING FRAMEWORK SHOULD BE EXTENDED

03 March 2017

Labour TD for Tipperary, Alan Kelly, has called today on Minister Simon Coveney to extend the timeline for submissions to the National Planning Framework by at least a month beyond Easter. Deputy Kelly said:

“The deadline for initial views to be submitted on the National Planning Framework is less than 2 weeks away at 12pm on Thursday 16th March. A number of groups have been in touch with me to say that the time period is very short for submission to be made.

“The Government is currently holding a major national consultation for the preparation of a strategic planning and development framework for Ireland between now and 2040.

“Only six weeks in total have been provided for submission to be made. I am calling on Minister Coveney to extend this period by at least another 4 weeks to ensure that as broad a sample of views are submitted.

“This Framework will be in place for more than two decades so it is really important that all voices are heard.

“Extending the deadline beyond Easter in April would ensure this could happen.”
