Labour Leader to attend PES Congress in Lisbon
Labour Party Leader Brendan Howlin TD will this weekend be attending the Congress of the Party of European Socialists (PES) in Lisbon from Friday 7th to Saturday 8thDecember where Frans Timmermans, the PES Common Candidate for the European Elections will also make a key note speech.
At the Congress Deputy Howlin will meet with social democratic and socialist leaders from across the EU, while delegates from PES Member parties across Europe will gather to plan and prepare for the upcoming European election in May 2019. A number of resolutions will be adopted to inform the PES manifesto.
Key issues will be debated under the theme of ‘Fair Free Sustainable. the Progressive Europe We Want’.
Deputy Howlin will attend the Leader’s Dinner on Friday night and looks forward to discussing with colleagues the future challenges facing Europe and will brief fellow leaders on the challenge Ireland faces from Brexit.
The PES Prime Ministers of Spain, Portugal, Malta and Slovakia will be speaking at the Congress while the UK Labour Party Leader Jeremy Corbyn will also attend and speak on the Friday evening.
