How many ways can one screening programme mess up?

08 August 2019

Commenting on the news that Cervical Check have sent incorrect letters to 400 women, Labour Health spokesperson, Alan Kelly TD said:

“How many ways can one screening programme completely mess up providing women with the right information?

“Some of the 400 women were told that they didn’t have HPV, when they are in fact HPV positive. This kind of administrative error is inexcusable.

“The question needs to be asked after everything that has happened in the last 18 months why are there no proper checks and balances before women are contacted by CervicalCheck?

“Messy errors like this are completely avoidable. This kind of carry on is not good enough from CervicalCheck when it is under so much scrutiny still.

“Women need to see more than assurances through the media from the HSE and Minister Harris. We need to see exact timelines for when changes and stronger oversight will be in place in order to build back up confidence in this vital programme.”
