Labour LGBT supports call for National Gender Service Investigation

12 November 2019

Labour LGBT, the LGBT section of the Irish Labour Party is officially supporting calls for an an investigation into the National Gender Service at St Colmcilles Hospital, Loughlinstown, Dublin.

Speaking on the matter, Labour LGBT Co Chairs Aoife Leahy and James Joy said:

“The recent news that the National Gender Service in Loughlinstown misplaced over 100 patient referrals on waiting lists is shocking and devastating for the trans community in Ireland.

It appears that over 100 trans people were on incorrect waiting lists for up to three years, waiting on an appointment, without any communication or notification from the National Gender Service.

In recent years Irish trans people have spoken publicly time and time again about the poor health service they receive in Ireland. This news is a further indictment that raidical change is needed for better trans healthcare in Ireland.

Labour LGBT fully supports the calls of Trans advocacy groups TENI and This Is Me for an investigation into the matter”, concluded Leahy and Joy.
