Prominent Health campaigners support Kelly’s re-election campaign
Labour Party Health spokesperson and General Election candidate for Tipperary, Alan Kelly, has received the endorsements of two prominent health campaigners, Vicky Phelan and John Wall.
Deputy Kelly said:
“I am obviously delighted to receive the backing of two inspirational people like Vicky Phelan and John Wall who will have a profound and lasting impact on the Irish health service for years to come.
“Working with Vicky Phelan since the beginning of the CervicalCheck scandal has changed fundamentally the way I approach politics. I think what she has done is refreshing in relation to breaking down barriers in the health service, disrupting the health service in a positive way, making people challenge the health service, challenge doctors, take responsibility for your own health in a very direct way and I am extremely honoured to have received her backing in this pivotal election campaign.
“I also received an endorsement from prominent campaigner for medical cards for terminally ill patients, John Wall. Having worked with John for the last few months, I look forward to him joining me on the campaign trail over the coming weeks.
“Being Health spokesperson when the Department of Health is dogged by scandal after scandal and when you are constantly confronted with Fine Gael waste of public money in the health service can be especially challenging but it is worth it when you meet people like Vicky and John. I am looking forward to continuing to raise the issues they have campaigned on for the through out this campaign.”
