Kelly welcomes South Kerry Greenway decision
Labour leader Alan Kelly has welcomed the High Court decision for the South Kerry Greenway to commence. Located along the Ring of Kerry route, Deputy Kelly said this scenic greenway will bring cyclists to the area from all over Europe.
Deputy Kelly said:
“It is hugely welcome that the South Kerry Greenway is to go ahead. A project I funded as Minister in 2014, this greenway will be iconic once complete. Throughout the past year, we have seen the huge appetite for these types of amenities from those holidaying at home, and counties like Waterford and Mayo attract huge numbers of tourists year round to experience the greenways there.
“The economic impact of similar developments has been hugely positive. This greenway has the potential to really boost the South Kerry economy, creating jobs in the towns and villages along its route from bike hires to coffee huts to tours. It will be transformative for locals and tourists alike. The Waterford and Mayo greenways were funded at the same time, and look at them now.
“There’s no doubt that this will be one of the best and most beautiful greenways in Europe, and it will be a huge asset to tourism in South Kerry. There can be no further delay to this great project. There needs to be political support for work to commence quickly on the greenway and I look forward to it proceeding over the coming years.”
