- Equality in Education protest to take place tomorrow at 2pm in Dublin
Labour Cllr Angela Feeney has urged attendance at the Equality in Education protest in Dublin tomorrow to send a message to Government that every child deserves the best chance at life.
Speaking in advance of the protest, Cllr Feeney said:
“It’s shameful that in a country of plenty so many families are still unsure of where their child will be attending school in September. The failure to plan for and address the growing need for special education places is having real life consequences for so many families.
“Rather than intervening and creating a pathway to recruit more teachers and special needs assistants, Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil have a habit of trying to paper over the cracks at the eleventh hour. It’s no way to do business.
“Parents should not have to be in constant battle with the State for access to appropriate school places for their child.
“Every child should be guaranteed an appropriate place and the Minister must come out and offer assurances to parents that their child will have their right to education guaranteed. It should not come to this, no parent should be forced to take to the streets to draw attention to this very basic right, but here we are once again. I’d urge anyone who can to join us in support of these families and demand real equality in education.”
