Labour’s workers’ rights spokesperson Senator Nessa Cosgrove has welcomed the confirmation that the minimum hourly rate for security workers in Ireland will rise from €14.50 to €15.41 from 22 July 2025. In response to a parliamentary question to Labour Finance Spokesperson Ged Nash TD, the Minister for Enterprise confirmed that a new Employment Regulation Order, which gives effect to this wage increase, has been signed.
Senator Cosgrove said:
“This increase to €15.41 per hour is a significant and hard-won victory for security officers across Ireland. This change is a result of determined efforts by SIPTU, progressive employers, and the Joint Labour Committee system – reintroduced by Labour in Government – that has made this wage increase possible.
“The security industry has long been associated with low pay and poor working conditions. It is important to remember that these workers – who often operate alone, at night, and in high-risk environments – deserve fair pay for the essential work they do.
“Labour introduced the legislation that made this pay increase possible. Government must build on this. We in Labour have been calling for the establishment of more employer-trade union Joint Labour Committees across all low paid sectors of the economy to set Fair Pay Agreements binding minimum pay and conditions for workers.”
