Momentum continues to grow to elect Catherine Connolly to the Áras - The Labour Party

The Labour Party co-ordinator for the Catherine Connolly for President Campaign Ciaran Ahern TD has welcomed Sinn Féin’s support to elect Catherine Connolly to be the next Uachtaráin na hÉireann.

Deputy Ahern said:

“Catherine is a formidable politician of the left and the groundswell of support for her message to be a voice for those too often silenced is resonating across the country.

“She has been a stalwart voice for the people of Gaza and has consistently called for stronger action to stop Israel’s genocide and for the rights of the Palestinian people. Catherine has also always been a strong and consistent advocate for those facing disadvantage and those left behind here at home including the survivors of Magdalene Laundries and Mother and Baby Homes. The Labour Party are proud to support her.

“This campaign is all about bringing those who share Catherine’s values of equality, solidarity and fairness together, so the decision of Sinn Fein to follow the Labour Party and others in backing Catherine is enormously welcome in demonstrating that another kind of politics is possible in Ireland.

“Every day, more and more voices are coming together in support of Catherine Connolly and her ideals. With yesterday’s welcome endorsement by the Green Party and Sinn Féin following suit today we can feel real momentum building for Catherine across the country and across political lines now. My hope is that the coming weeks will bring a concentration on the core issues and on the values we want to put forward for the Presidency, and on the experience and capacity of the candidate to deliver a vision for all people for the next seven years.”
