Amazon must engage with Irish workers now - The Labour Party
Labour Enterprise spokesperson George Lawlor TD has today responded to Amazon’s announcement that it plans to cut about 16,000 corporate roles globally, warning that workers in Ireland cannot be left in limbo and calling on Amazon to engage openly with staff and their representatives.
Deputy George Lawlor said:
“My thoughts today are with every Amazon worker who has heard this news and with their families. Amazon employs around 6,500 people in Ireland across its sites and operations, and workers here deserve straight answers about what this decision means for them. Staff should not have to rely on rumours, leaks or anxious guesswork to understand their future. Amazon must engage with staff openly and transparently. It must communicate directly with employees in Ireland.
“This is an incredibly stressful time for staff. We must consider the impact this will have not only on those whose jobs may go, but on teams who remain, who will carry the anxiety, the uncertainty and the pressure that follows announcements like this. People deserve stability at work and dignity in how they are treated, not a cloud hanging over them for months.
“I also wish the employee representatives and all those involved well as they enter these crucial talks. Workers deserve strong representation and they deserve to be heard. Amazon must now do the right thing.”
