New Ross Plant workers need certainty on future of jobs - The Labour Party
Labour TD for Wexford George Lawlor has called on the Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment to urgently arrange a meeting with the new owners of the New Ross medical devices plant and seek firm assurances about the future of jobs at the facility.
Workers were left unpaid during a recent two-week shutdown and now face renewed uncertainty.
Deputy Lawlor said:
“First and foremost, my thoughts are with the workers in New Ross and their families. This must be an incredibly difficult and worrying time for them.
“After being left without pay during a two-week shutdown, workers are now facing further uncertainty about what the change in ownership could mean for their jobs and their livelihoods. They deserve clear answers about what comes next.
“That is why Government cannot simply wait and see what happens. The Minister for Enterprise must urgently seek a meeting with KKR and make clear the importance of the New Ross operation to Wexford.
“We need to know what KKR’s plans are for New Ross, and what it envisages for the plant in the years ahead. The workers have contributed enormously to the success of this operation and to the local economy. They should not be left wondering from one week to the next what the future holds.
“I am calling on the Minister to engage directly with the new owners at the earliest possible opportunity and seek firm assurances on jobs and the long-term future of the New Ross plant.”
