Lawlor demands action to protect workers following EuroGiant announcement - The Labour Party
Labour enterprise spokesperson George Lawlor TD has today expressed concern following confirmation that discount retailer EuroGiant has entered liquidation, placing up to 640 jobs across Ireland under threat. Deputy Lawlor is calling on the company to secure the best possible outcome for workers.
Deputy George Lawlor said:
“My thoughts today are with all those individuals working for EuroGiant who are affected by this announcement, and with their families. I know how worrying and unsettling this will be for them and their families. For many workers, this news will have come as a profound shock and will create immediate anxiety. They deserve clarity and respect during this deeply uncertain time.
“The scale of potential job losses is concerning, not only for the employees directly impacted but also for the towns and communities where EuroGiant stores operate. Retail jobs are often vital anchors in local economies, supporting footfall in shopping areas and sustaining additional employment in nearby businesses.
“It is essential that the liquidation process proceeds with full transparency and with workers placed at its centre. Employees must receive clear and timely communication about their rights, their entitlements and the supports available to them. The liquidator must work constructively with staff representatives, unions and State agencies to explore every viable option that could safeguard jobs or facilitate redeployment where possible. Workers cannot be left in the dark while decisions are made about their futures. Workers deserve certainty, respect and protection, and urgent action is now required to deliver it.”
