Luas workers must have conditions protected as new operator comes into place - The Labour Party
Labour’s transport spokesperson Ciaran Ahern TD has said Luas workers must have their conditions protected following the news that Transdev has not been awarded a new contract for the service.
Deputy Ahern said:
“The news that Transdev will not retain the Luas contract will likely come as a huge surprise to many workers and I want to express my solidarity with them at what must be a stressful time.
“It’s important that workers receive assurances from the new operator that their pay, terms and conditions will not be impacted over the course of the changeover.
“There will be great uncertainty for workers as the news filters out, and I am urging the Minister Darragh O’Brien to provide assurances to workers that they will be protected during this transition.
“Across Dublin and Ireland we are seeing increased traffic chaos and there’s a failure on the part of the Minister to deliver real solutions for commuters who are running late and losing hours stuck in traffic. Luas workers keep thousands of people moving through our city every day and they must be supported and assured at this time.”
