Essential that New Futures Employability Programme receives Govt support- O’Dea - The Labour Party

Labour Party by-election candidate for Dublin Central Ruth O’Dea has implored Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil to provide long-term investment in One Family’s New Futures programme.

As the class of 2026 graduated in Dublin yesterday, O’Dea said employment programmes like these that support single parent families are a critical piece of armoury in supporting people to access employment.

O’Dea said:

“I would urge Government to support the New Futures programme that supports people into long term employment options. New Futures has a 75% progression rate for lone parents into education, training and employment. It is these very programmes that are essential to lift people into employment and supporting parents in their choices.

“Support programmes like this are so important to help people take small steps that can lead to big results. Education has a transformative impact on the lives of people, and through One Family’s scheme, single parents are supported together in an environment of shared experience.

“The Programme for Government makes a clear commitment to enhancing supports for lone parents. Ensuring access to education schemes like the New Futures programme is one clear way they can make good on this commitment.”
