Ogbu offers condolences to family of Yves Sakila and Congolese community - The Labour Party

Labour Councillor Helen Ogbu has expressed her condolences following the death of Yves Sakila after an incident on Henry Street in Dublin on Friday evening and has called for a full and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Councillor Ogbu said:
“I want to offer my deepest condolences to the family of Yves Sakila and to the close-knit Congolese community at this incredibly difficult time. I have reached out to members of the community and my thoughts are with them. My thoughts are also with the elderly man injured while innocently going about his business on Friday evening.
“The footage circulating online is deeply distressing and shocking to watch. I note the concerns raised by the Irish Network Against Racism regarding the possible use of excessive force, and I echo calls for a full and transparent investigation into exactly what happened.
“This tragedy has caused enormous shock within the Congolese community. At a time of grief and trauma, communities need solidarity and support. There can be no delay in establishing the full facts surrounding what happened on Henry Street.”
