Intel expansion shows Ireland must back innovation and workers - The Labour Party

Labour Enterprise spokesperson George Lawlor TD has welcomed today’s announcement that Intel will invest in its Leixlip campus, describing it as a significant vote of confidence in Ireland’s workforce and the country’s position as a global centre for advanced manufacturing and technology.

Deputy Lawlor said:
“Today’s announcement from Intel is extremely welcome and will provide reassurance for tech workers and their families who have experienced significant uncertainty across the technology sector over the past year. After a difficult period for the industry in 2026, this investment represents a positive step forward and demonstrates that Ireland continues to offer the talent, expertise and stability that global companies value. Our skilled workforce remains one of Ireland’s greatest strengths.

“While this announcement is welcome, it must not lead to complacency. International competition for investment continues to intensify, and Government must ensure that Ireland remains an attractive location for businesses that create secure, high quality jobs. That means investing in infrastructure, addressing housing shortages that make it difficult to recruit and retain workers, supporting research and development, and ensuring our education and skills system can meet the demands of a rapidly changing economy.

“We also need to ensure that the benefits of economic growth are shared fairly. Strong enterprise policy must go hand in hand with decent work, fair pay and secure employment. That is how we build resilient communities and a stronger economy.”
