Cork Senator Laura Harmon stands with INMO over cuts to CUMH Domino scheme - The Labour Party
Senator Harmon said:
“I am appalled that the Domino scheme at CUMH is being reduced because of staffing concerns. The scheme gives expectant mothers in Cork City a choice in their care. It is unacceptable that HSE delays have prevented CUMH from filling vacant roles in the labour ward. Hiring restrictions must be overhauled so hospitals can fill these posts.
“I stand with the INMO in calling for an end to the recruitment embargo at CUMH. Government parties and the HSE must intervene. Mothers and babies should not suffer because of disagreements between HSE management and local hospitals at such a vulnerable time.
“Staffing restrictions across HSE South West are having serious consequences for our health service. Just a month ago, Cork University Hospital CEO Jennifer Kearney raised safety concerns, saying the hospital was short more than 1,000 staff. The HSE and Government must act on these concerns. I will raise this with the Minister for Health and the HSE.”
