“The devastating news from Waterford today has stopped the entire country in its tracks.
“I want to extend my deepest and most sincere sympathies to the family and community of those who have tragically lost their lives.
“Our thoughts are also with the two children who remain in a critical condition in hospital. We sincerely hope for their recovery and stand with their loved ones as they await news. I want to thank the healthcare workers caring for them.
“I want to pay tribute to the fire services, Gardai and all the first responders for their bravery and professionalism in attending the scene this morning.
“To the wider Waterford community, please know that the thoughts and sympathies of the entire country are with you at this devastating time.
“A Garda investigation is now underway and I would urge anyone with any information to please come forward and assist Gardai.
“May those who lost their lives rest in peace.”
