Labour Women and Labour Youth are today holding a Day of Action on their Register to Repeal campaign where a number of colleges and constituencies nationwide are spreading awareness on the voter registration deadline of November 25th.

Speaking on the matter Chair of Labour Women Sinead Ahern commented:

“Next year we will have an important referendum on the 8th Amendment. The 8th Amendment in the Irish Constitution limits women’s access to full reproductive healthcare and is a source of discrimination against all women living in Ireland.

“We want to make sure that no one misses the opportunity to have their voice heard on polling day; we are asking people to join us in registering to vote so that they can change Ireland for the better.

Chloe Manahan, Chair of Labour Youth added:

“No one under the age of 52 has had the chance to cast their vote on this issue and it’s critical that as many from the younger generations as possible get registered to vote so they can officially have their say next year.

“This upcoming referendum is vital for the lives and health of every woman in Ireland. As long as the 8th Amendment is in the constitution it will be impossible to have laws around abortion that are compassionate, fair and workable.

“We are urging everyone who will be aged 18 or over next February to go to checktheregister.ie to make sure they’re registered to vote and spread the word to friends and family. For anyone not registered you can download the form from checktheregister.ie and post to your local authority by 25th November.”
