State must tackle escalation in gun shootings
Labour representative for Dublin South Central Councillor Rebecca Moynihan has condemned the gunshots fired outside the National Boxing stadium on the South Circular Road last night, and called for action from the State to tackle the escalating number of incidents, before more are killed and injured.
Cllr Moynihan said:
“Last night shots were fired outside the National Boxing Stadium on the South Circular Road and two men were injured, including one student.
“This outrageous act occurred on a Friday night beside a settled and well established city community where you have shops, restaurants, bars, a school, religious institutions and a third level college all close by and lots of passing pedestrians.
“It is a miracle that no one was killed or others injured or accidentally hurt both in the panic that followed or as an accidental target.
“This latest incident in the Kinahan-Hutch feud is another wake up call for An Garda Síochána and the State. Communities are gripped by fear and terror, and it is clear some elements have no compunction about firing shots where innocent bystanders may be collateral damage.
“It is time to take on the escalating number of gun shootings by committing the resources to tackle this feud once and for all.”
