More about me

Rebecca Moynihan

Senator Rebecca Moynihan

Why I got involved in politics

I believe in a progressive, inclusive society and that the Labour Party is integral to achieving that.

My priorities

I want to continue to work to make sure that our planning laws encourage vibrant sustainable communities, focusing on sporting facilities and artistic workspaces in the city.

I believe in a sustainable approach to planning and that no one type of accommodation is over concentrated in one area. I will continue to fight for the rights of renters, who are not simply "transient" people but integral to our communities.

An activist first and foremost, I worked with locals from all parties and none on campaigns to achieve Marriage Equality and Repeal of the 8th Amendment.

I will continue this work as a Senator and I look forward to fighting for a progressive, inclusive society on a national level.

My background

I am currently a Labour Party Senator on the Administrative Panel in the 26th Seanad. Before that, I was a member of Dublin City Council for the South West Inner City (Dublin 8) from 2009—2020. Between 2014 and 2019 I was also a Councillor for Crumlin-Kimmage due to changes to the boundaries of the council wards.

Before I became a Senator, I worked as a teacher in the Further Education sector.

As a local representative on Dublin City Council since 2009, I believe in an open, progressive and pragmatic approach to politics, and worked across party lines to ensure we deliver the best for our community.

I led the campaign to build Weaver Park, working across party lines to deliver the first park in Dublin 8 in over 100 years.

Since becoming a Senator, I have brought forward legislation to end period poverty and provide universal access to free period products. This is something that I have been passionate about since my time on Dublin City Council.
