Loss of Filmbase will be sorely felt by creative community

Senator Rebecca Moynihan

Labour Party spokesperson on Community Arts, Councillor Rebecca Moynihan has expressed disappointment in the closure of Filmbase.

Councillor Moynihan said:

“It’s a sad day for the film-making community in Ireland due to the closure of Filmbase in Temple Bar after thirty-two years.

“Hundreds if not thousands of young Irish creatives have learned and honed their craft through courses and equipment available through Filmbase.

“Filmbase was of huge importance to the film-making community in Dublin, it was a place to share ideas, learn tricks of the trade and also get help with funding for projects. It is hugely regrettable that after so many years of operating that a centre like this will no longer be available for filmmakers in the area.

“The loss of Filmbase will be sorely felt by the creative community in Dublin and further afield. To bridge this gap, the Arts Council and the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht should ensure that local community groups who require funding for emerging film-makers are able to draw money down.”
