Problems with Voter.ie Registration Website need to be fixed and clarified

19 May 2024

Labour Local Director of Elections, Senator Mark Wall has called on local authorities who run Voter.ie and the Minister for Housing to clarify if technical errors on the website are preventing people from registering to vote, and called for the deadline to be extended by at least a day.

Senator Mark Wall said:

“This evening I have been contacted by Labour candidates across the country who are reporting constituents having difficult getting registered to vote online due to what appears to be technical issues on the website voter.ie. The deadline to register is tomorrow, Monday 20th May.

“I have been informed of several technical errors with people repeatedly getting a message saying ‘something went wrong license is expired’. This happens when they click to confirm details after uploading photo ID either in the form of a passport or driving license

“In another example the online form was failing to recognise the address being inputted even with an Eircode.

“I would ask that the four Dublin local authorities that run Voter.ie and the Minister for Housing clarify if there have been technical issues on the website, what action has been taken to address it and how many people have been unable to register to vote.

“If the system isn’t working then the Minister should extend the final closing date by at least a day. We need to know how many people have been affected.”
